Good to finally find a site I can really relate to. I was wounded by a mortar round (something from China that really works

I've dealt with chronic pain ever since. Cost me three marriages and a whole lot of problems. I try to keep to myself but get too involved with social issues, especially Veterans issues.

I'm getting old and I'm starting to question the need to continue suffering from pain when relief is so close by, if you know what I mean.

I'm only hanging around for the wife.

I'm open to talk about that kinda stuff if anyone is interested. In an open minded setting.

Depression is the big killer I have found and I've developed a lot of work rounds that have got me this far in life that work pretty good, with the big key being hobbies.

If you get into a hobbies you really like and find yourself drifting off into la la land, sleeping a lot and moping around, your moving into depression. A good hobby will help you notice this and send the message it's time to get into the anti-depression mode, what ever works for you. I found the big key to dealing with depression is being able to notice it yourself and take action before anyone else notices it first.

Anyway, good to be here.

Dear Moonstroller,

Welcome aboard! We're glad you found us!

Yes - distraction is key - Finding a hobby, volunteer activity - something to do that keeps the brain occupied on other things is definitely important in avoiding depression related to chronic pain.

I'm assuming that I'm reading between the lines correctly on your comment regarding relief -- I'm sure that many of us pain patients have felt that way at one time or another -- so, for the benefit of anyone "listening in" here - We have a crisis button (http://www.painfoundation.org/page.asp?file=page_resources.htm) listed here on our website with numbers to call. There is a special line just for vets with people who really understand the extra stresses and challenges that we face.

Also - Vet Centers (not VA) are popping up all over the country and I've been hearing a lot of great feedback from people. They are free to all combat vets - and their families - and offer assistance through group counseling - but also help with your family, transitioning, etc., etc.

Anyway - glad you found us and hope you'll join in on the conversation.

Semper Fi!
