Hi fellow Vets:
Not only do we live with pain, but now it comes out that the VA in NYC were not processing our claims. They were shedding some, loseing some?, mis-dateing some. In other words, our rights to compensation were going out the back door.

Hey Bob I am CR a vet like you that has had the run around and the lost or filed away compensation papers like you. And my brother I have had to many horrible exams that were never done the right way and done them over and over and over until I was sick of going there.
I know it is frustrating and frankly I had to go to the door of the folks and make it known to them that I was not happy witht the exams and tired of being belittled every time I went there.
Take the steps you need to get them to recognize that you are a individual not a number passing thru the doors looking for a hand out. Also remember I am with you all the way in your quest for being recognized as a Veteran a one man looking for his day to be treated as such.

It took me over 3 years from the day I filed. It actually took a year betwen denials. My file would lay on soeones des then get put bac on the bottom of the stcak. You have to realize how mmany claims they are procceesin there. It would boggle your mind.

Hay Bob the same thing happened to me and about 100 other vets here in Alaska. All the exams were not done correct thrown away lost etc. Do what I did walk into the office of the main Head of the VA office and ask the question.

Why do we have our rigths thrown out the window such as the exams. Then you tell the person I did not throw my loyalty or my patriotism out the window when helping those who depended on me.

We had the same problem in the 70's with the VA. It came to a head in 78 when some veterans started taking things into their own hands. It got nasty. But it did get attention and they decided to deal with it (baseball bats hurt).

I'm not advocating violence to get their attention but sitting on your butt isn't going to force them to become nearer and dearer to your heart.

I suggest you get clubbed up with some organizations in your area, if your not already. The more experienced people you can affiliate with the better your chances at getting some serious help from the VA.

Calling every day helps. Let them know your name and remember it. Don't hesitate to indulge them with lengthy conversation. Tell them every little detail about your problems and don't hesitate to complain (formally). Make sure you get every name you talk to. Insist on last names or id numbers. If they don't give it to you, report them. Remember, most states have their own Veterans programs, get involved in those also. They can be a big help because they know most veterans who end up with money spend every penny of it in the local market.

If your state doesn't' help you, move to Virginia.... They have the whole racket down pat and some of the best VA hospitals in the nation.

Contact you Congressman and if he/she doesn't get involved with you make sure the local newspapers know about it. After that happens, they will put you on their Christmas list.

I was told by a disgruntled counselor that the Lion who roars the loudest gets the biggest hunk of meat.

Keep everything they send you and make copies (at least 5, everything something comes in). Make sure you get a copy of everything you sign. If their copy gets shredded or disappears, you just happen to have a complete set ready to be sent via Return receipt mail. <smile> Your going to need those records the rest of your life. Make sure they are organized and updated all the time. I can't emphasize this enough. Get at least one copy of your records from the VA each year.

The short and sweet is: you got to take responsibility for yourself because they aren't going to do it for you. The big emphasis is on the copies. This is the information the WWII vets gave to me and I followed it to the letter. It works.

There is one thing I have learned in all my dealing with politicians and the VA since 1972: the Democrats giveth and the Republicans taketh away. It never fails........

If you are a wounded Vet, you should also be a registered Democrat and never... I say again... never change.

It's all politics so get involved with your local Veterans chapter and stay connected the rest of your life. It is your life now. If you don't you have no one to blame but yourself.

Good luck.
