National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans
Week of February 11, 2008

Valentine's Day is a great time to say thanks to America's veterans. Two ways to do that are by sending a valentine card or visiting hospitalized veterans in your area during the National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans, Feb. 10 - 16. You can find the address and phone number of your nearest VA hospital by checking the local phone directory or visit www.va.gov/directory on the internet. If you want to visit, please call first - the hospital's Voluntary Services staff will be happy to arrange your visit.

Id like to take a moment and give thanks to all the service organizations and churches that care both for and about our Vets.
From 91-98 I spent way too much time and too many holidays in the Va. Most where at the Chillocothe VAMC with its beautiful grounds and forest(look out the window and see the deer grazing!) Every holiday there were always special events and for the non-ambulatory Vets they went thru the wards. One year Busch came in and gave us all sweaters an flannel shirts and $20 in canteen books. VFW's and and the legion came thu with cigarrets and more canteen books. Most of us were very indigent and the hospital was long distance to Columbus(where most of us where from). The canteen books bought a lot of phone cards!. They always brought in snacks and bingo games hosted by the pretty young members. All in all they were a Godsend.
Agin my heart felt thanks to all these groups taking their time and money tp care for our Vets at a specail time. The holidays are very depressing when hospitalized especially for us without families to visit.
Thanks with all my heart
Britt Neal
